This 8-week course is structured to provide a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of product development.

 

Course Modules

Intro

Identify a repeatable and scalable business model using the business model canvas, which includes Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, and Cost Structure. 

Module One: Kick-Off

Get familiar with the Value Proposition Canvas and begin assessing your Product-Market Fit. Understand how to create value by deeply understanding customer needs and designing products that meet those needs.

Module Two: Design

Explore the iterative process of design, which involves developing prototypes to test ideas and gain insights. Learn how prototypes can range from simple sketches to detailed mock-ups that help communicate and refine your concepts.

Module Three: Test

Bring your idea to life through rigorous testing. Construct and execute tests to validate your hypotheses and assumptions, learning to adapt and iterate quickly based on feedback.

Module Four: Evolve

Use feedback from testing to make actionable changes to your design. Continuously evolve your product to better align with customer needs and market demands.

 

Requirements

To succeed in this course, you will need:

 

Basic understanding of business and engineering principles.

Access to a computer with an internet connection (Windows 10/OS X 10.13 or higher).

The latest versions of Chrome or Firefox with Javascript enabled.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to conduct research and send/receive emails with attachments.

Capability to save backups of all coursework.

 

About The Instructor

Luke Nogales is a tenured faculty member in the College of Engineering at New Mexico State University and serves as the Program Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program. He teaches courses in mechanical design, product design, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Mr. Nogales co-founded NMSU's Aggie Innovation Space, which supports student and community innovation. With a background in product development at Procter & Gamble, he leverages consumer insights to drive innovation and branding. Mr. Nogales holds an M.S. in Product Design and Development from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from NMSU.
